NEPAL

AFTER YOU HAVE visited the temples, palaces and shops of Kathmandu, the beautiful landscape extends out on all sides inviting you to explore it in various ways. If rafting is your choice, then Pokhra is one of the bases from where you drive to the put-in point for an adventure down the Mardi River. The less energetic can take a ‘lazy boat’ but still enjoy the thrills of rafting down the river gorge. This is a good vantage point from where to view the humdrum daily life of villages along the bank. At the Seti River Camp the cheerful staff make you feel comfortable and against the humming of the river, you can enjoy a meal cooked over a
wood fire. At night, don’t be surprised to be awakened the deep-throated roar of a leopard hunting somewhere along the tree-covered hillside. The next destination is the Royal Chitwan National Park, home of the wild elephant, the one-horned rhinoceros and many other animals including the Royal Bengal Tiger. It is also a paradise for bird-watchers. Safari through the jungle on elephant back or take a jeep if you prefer.
Then visit the beautiful Tiger Mountain Tharu Safari Lodge, built in the  indigenous style of the Tharu people Mountain Tharu Safari Lodge, before you return to Kathmandu.

ESSENTIAL NEPAL

THE KINGDOM OF NEPAL, with ancient monasteries and temples, lies in the foothills of the mighty Himalaya, at the borders of India and China (Tibet). Its simple hill folk practice Hinduism and Buddhism. The beautiful terrain provides ample opportunity for trekking, river rafting, bird watching and wildlife safaris or if you prefer, you could relax and just take in the fresh mountain air. In the tour that follows, we have tried to cover a bit of all. The choice of locations covers much of this fascinating land, and the accommodation is the best available.
The focus at Kathmandu is the Durbar Square with its ancient royal palace, official residence of the King of Nepal. The many temples include the house of the Kumari, the living goddess. The three holy sites include the 2,500-year-old Buddhist shrine of Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath, a Hindu temple complex and the great stupa of Boudhanath.
Outside the capital, Dhulikhel is an old Newari town with impressive old buildings. Chitwan is the famed wildlife sanctuary where you can see the endangered one-horned rhinoceros and the Royal Bengal Tiger, as well as a large number of other wildlife.
