DELHI-VARANASI – KHAJURAHO-ORCHA-AGRA-RANTHAMBORE-JAIPUR-UDAIPUR-BOMBAY

Introduction
This tour includes the classical cities of North India like Varanasi (Benaras) and Khajuraho besides giving you a glimpse of Rajasthan, Taj Mahal and wild life. Varanasi is the oldest living city on earth and its legacy goes back to 3000 years. The ghats on river Ganga are its identity and you can witness profound Hindu rituals being performed related to birth and death.  The temples at Khajuraho are a World Heritage Site recognised by UNESCO. They were built by the Chandela rulers in 9th and 10th century and are the pinnacle of north Indian temple architecture. The sculptures on the temples depict gods and goddesses, dancers & maidens, warriors and beasts and the famous erotic scenes. They say, if you stay in Ranthambore for a couple of nights, you are sure to see a tiger. Other animals that you are likely to see are Chital, Neelgai, sambar, wild boar, langur, mongooes and hare. Some more elusive ones are the leopard and sloth bear. Extensive bird life includes spurfowl, jungle fowl, partridges, serpent eagle, quails, flycatchers, green bee-eaters etc. Other interesting activities include a boat ride in Varanasi, Rickshaw ride in Chandni Chowk, Old Delhi and a cultural evening with Indian dances in Khajuraho.

JEWELS OF INFORMATION

Tantric Beliefs – The worship of female goddesses developed into the widely practised form of devotional worship called Tantrism. Kali became the focus of worship, which often involved practises unheard of in the Brahminical Hinduism. Animal and human sacrifices and ritual sexual intercourse became part of their belief. Tantric practises affected both Hinduism and Budhism in the 8th Century. Its influence is evident in the temples of Khajuraho and Konark.
