Royal Splendor – Palace on Wheels

Delhi – Jaipur – Jaisalmer – Jodhpur – Swai Madhopur – Chittorgarh – Udaipur – Bharatpur – Agra     (09 Days /08 Nights)

You will be delighted to choose to see Rajasthan by the Palace-on-Wheels. On board, you will feel like an erstwhile monarch travelling in regal splendour. Each coach named after the erstwhile princely state has 4 twin bedded chambers, thoughtfully decorated in ethnic Rajasthani décor. Channel music, intercom, attached toilets running hot & cold water, shower and wall-to-wall carpeting are some of the facilities to make you feel at home. Each saloon has personal attendants or Khidmatgars, who are at your beck and call to extend a courteous helping hand, should you need anything.
 


Day 01        Arrive Delhi
Met on arrival and transfer to the hotel. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 02        Departure Delhi (Board Palace on Wheels)
Morning proceed for sightseeing tour of the Old Delhi - a multi - layered city. Our first stop is the Red Fort built by the great Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan when he shifted his capital from Agra. A short drive brings us to the Great Mosque - The Jama Masjid. Drive on to see the memorial built for Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.

Afternoon Sightseeing tour of New Delhi includes a visit to the Qutub Minar - the tallest stone tower in India built in 1191 AD. Chhatarpur Temple - the most popular Hindu temple with blissful tranquility and serene ambience. Continue to Humayun's Tomb believed to have been designed by his widow.  Its plan is based on the description of Islamic paradise gardens and is known to have inspired the Taj Mahal and many later Mughal tombs.

Later check-out of the hotel and transfer to the Delhi Cantonment Station. where you will be accorded a warm, traditional welcome before the Palace–on-Wheels pulls into the night.  Departure 1830hrs Dinner will be served on board the train

Day 03        Arrive Jaipur
Arrival 08.30. Breakfast on board. To explore the city, and air-conditioned coach takes you for the sightseeing tour of The "Pink" city Morning excursion to the Amber Fort which is perched on a hill.  An Elephant transports us inside the fort which houses a Marble Palace, Temple of Victory and a Hall of Mirrors.  On returning to the city we admire the Outdoor Observatory – the Jantar Mantar- built in 1726 by Jai Singh, a notable astronomer King. It houses instruments of astonishing accuracy, which give accurate predictions to this day. The City Palace is a visitors delight. Within the walls are several Palaces and museums resplendent
with collections of the princely era. Drive to the Palace of Winds (Hawa Mahal), a five story high Palace having a facade of windows and latticed screens which allowed the Ladies of the Court, in bygone days, to sit and view the streets of the city. In the evening you will be brought back to Palace-on-Wheels, dinner and overnight onboard.


Day 04        Arrive Jasialmer
Arrival Jaisalmer at 0815. Breakfast on board, followed by sightseeing in town.
The Fort, a sentinel to the bleak desertscape from its 80 metre high perch on the hill, housing the entire township within its ramparts. It has an enchanting cow-web of narrow lanes dotted with some lovely havelis, three beautifully sculpted Jain temples of the 12th - 15th century ad and five interconnected palaces. The fort is approached through four gateways - Akhaiya Pol, Ganesh Pol, Suraj Pol and Hava Pol. Gadisar Lake is a scenic rain water lake with numerous beautiful shrines around and a spectacular avian variety. Some of the most exotic mansions or havelis, all intricately latticed, are strewn all over Jaisalmer - each with a different facade. Patwon-ki-Haveli is the most elaborate and magnificent of all the Jaisalmer havelis. It has exquisitely carved pillars and extensive corridors and chambers. Salim Singh-ki-Haveli is a 300 year old haveli of Jaisalmer’s prime minister to maharaja Rawal Gaj Singh. The fort has three exquisitely carved Jain temples dedicated to the Jain Tirthankaras - Rishabdev, Sambhavnath and Parswanath.

In the evening visit the Sand Dunes. No trip to Jaisalmer is complete without a trip to the most picturesque dunes of Sam. The ripples on the wind-caressed dunes, that create an enchanting mirage, are surely a delight for a trigger-happy photographer. Various cultural programs are organized against the backdrop of these fascinating sand dunes. Exciting camel Safaris allow you to get the real feel of the desert on the camel back.

Dinner and cultural program at a hotel in Jaisalmer, then on with the train to Jodhpur.

Day 05        Arrive Jodhpur
This morning Palace-on-Wheels is in Jodhpur. Arrival 08.00. Breakfast on board. Afternoon sightseeing tour of Jodhpur includes the Mehrangarh fort - the 5 km long majestic fort on a 125 meter high hill which is one of the most impressive and formidable structures. Although invincible from the outside, the fort has four gates approached by a winding road.

Jaswant Thada is a cluster of royal cenotaphs built in 1899 AD in the memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. Within the main cenotaph are the portraits of various Jodhpur rulers.

Lunch at Umaid Bhawan Palace Hotel, originally the Royal Palace of the Maharajas of Jodhpur. Evening tea and dinner on board.

Day 06        Arrive Swaimadhopur - Chittorgarh
Sawai Madhopur (Ranthambor). Arrival in Sawai Madhopur at 0400. after breakfast we travel to Ranthambor (14 km - 9 miles) to the well-known game park with its tigers and leopards. With any luck you might see a tiger in its natural surroundings. Many other animals such as crocodiles, deer, gazelles, nilgais and hyenas live here.

Departure for Chittaurgarh at 11.00 hrs. Lunch on Board at 13.00
Arrival Chittaurgarh at 16.00 hrs. Sightseeing of Chittorgarh Fort. Chittorgarh Fort on a 180 m high hill, was the strongest of the Rajput forts. The tall and finely chiseled Victory Tower and the Tower of Fame are undamaged and reach up into the sky from the surrounding ruins. Dinner on Board 20.00 hrs.

    Day 07        Chittorgarh - Udaipur
    Chittorgarh/Udaipur. Arrival 07.30. Breakfast on board. Drive by bus journey to Udaipur to the Lake Palace Hotel on Lake Pichola, originally the summer palace of the Maharana of Udaipur. Boat trip followed by lunch at the Lake Palace Hotel.

Sightseeing in Udaipur - founded in 1559 on the banks of Lake Pichola by the Maharana Udai Singh. Visiting City Palace The town palace is raised high above the lake and contains among others a hall of mirrors, a roof garden with a pond and a peacock court, named after its peacock mosaic. Sahelion-Ki-bari is a pleasant park with 4 fountains and colourful flower beds.

In the evening our luxury coach will take us back to Palace-on-Wheels at Chittaurgarh, dinner on board train.

Day 08        Arrive Bharatpur - Agra
Arrival 06.30. Breakfast and visit Keoladeo National Park, the 29 sq. km lake and wetland was artificially created by the Maharaja of Bharatpur in the 19th century. The Park is a delight for bird watchers with over 300 species of birds are found here. Raised paths, camouflaged by babul trees and undergrowth make viewing easy. A quiet ride by boat in the early hours of the morning is also an unforgettable experience. Every year Bharatpur waits with bated breath for the arrival of the Siberian cranes. There are only two wintering places for this rare species – one in Iran and the other Bharatpur. These beautiful birds with their distinctive red beaks and facial patches, fly over 6400 km from their retreats in Siberia.
Later we proceed by coach to Fatehpur Sikri - A fascinating deserted capital of Emperor Akbar. Abandoned in a few years for lack of water. Later drive to Agra and visit world famous Taj Mahal. Lunch will be served in a hotel. and tea at Restaurant,. Dinner on board.

Day 09        Arrive Delhi
Delhi. Breakfast on train and end of journey. Arrive Delhi 7.30 and transfer to the hotel. Rest of the day at leisure to explore the local market.

Later in the day check-out of the hotel and transfer to the airport in time to board your flight for onward destination.
