DAY 01: ARRIVE-GAYA-BODHGAYA
Met upon arrival and after assistance at the airport, transfer to your hotel at Bodhgaya, 16 Kms. Arrive in Bodhgaya and check-in at your Hotel. Dinner and overnight at hotel. (Dinner).
DAY 02: BODHGAYA.
The day starts with the visit of Mahabodhi temple. It was in Bodhgaya under the Bodhi tree that Gautam, the prince,
Attained enlightenment to become Buddha. King Ashok
erected a shrine near the Bodhi tree, which was replaced by
Mahabodhi Temple in the 2nd century BC. It houses a
Gilded image of the Buddha in the pose signifying
enlightenment, there are carvings on the Stupa depicting
tales from Buddha's lives. (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner).
DAY 03: BODHGAYA-PATNA.
Morning depart by surface for Patna en route
visiting Rajgir & Nalanda (136 Kms). Encircled
by rugged forested hills, Rajgir is held sacred by
both Buddhists and Jains for its association with
the Lord Buddha and Lord Mahavir, who taught,
here for many year's. Rajgir was the capital of
Magadh Empire around 800 BC. This is evident
from the remains of the cyclopean dry stone that once enclosed the ancient city. Visit the Ajatshatru Fort, Venuvana, and the bamboo grove where Lord Buddha spent some time. Located close is the Jivakamarvana Monastery (4-3rd C BC). After this take the cable car ride to visit the Visva Shanti Stupa built by Japanese on top of Ratnagiri mountain. From here you can have a good view of the Griddakuta Hill (the hill of vultures) from where Lord Buddha, delivered many important sermons and also of the Sattapani Cave, where the First Buddhist Council was convened six months after the death of Lord Buddha.
After lunch, proceed with your drive and visit
Nalanda. The site of Nalanda was one of the
greatest monastic universities of the ancient world
University established in 5th century BC was the
center of learning till it was destroyed by Muslim
invader, Bahjtiar Khilji in 12th century A.D. It is
believed that Lord Buddha and also the founder of
Jainism religion Lord Mahavir taught at his university
for years. There is even a monument to felicitate
Chinese traveler and writer Hiuen Tsang studied at this university in the 7th century A.D. He was one
of many of those from East and Southeast Asia who came here to study logic, meta-
physics, medicine, prose composition and rhetoric. After this drive to Patna. Arrive in
Patna and check-in at your hotel. (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner).
DAY 04: PATNA-VAISHALI-KUSHINAGAR.
After early breakfast at hotel, depart by surface fro Kushinagar with packed lunch. (109 Kms). En route visit which holds an important place in the life of Lord Buddha. He visited Vaishali on three occasions and this is where Lord Buddha preached his last sermon and announced his approaching Nirvana to his disciples. It is also the site of famous lion pillar erected by the Emperor Ashok to mark Lord Buddha’s first sermon, which still stands today. During the second great Buddhist council held at Vaishali about 100 years after Buddha attained Mahaparinirvana, a Stupa was erected to house one eighth of the enlightened urn's funeral visited Vaishali in the 5th & 7th centuries respectively. At the Vaishali Museum, you will see figures, old coins and photographs of the excavations. Later arrive at Kushinagar and check-in at your hotel.
Kushinagar is where Lord Buddha at an age
of 80 passed into Mahaparinirvana. Buddha
was finally freed from the eternal cycle of
re-birth leaving with us all the wisdom and
Knowledge of his remarkable life. The
famous sites are Mahaparinirvana temple
and Ramabhar Stupa where Buddha was
cremated. Amongst the ruins are
Mukutbandhan Stupa and a beautiful status
of reclining Buddha. Also visit the
Mukutbandhan Stupa built by Malla Dynasty to house Buddha’s relics after the
cremation. Dinner and overnight at Hotel. (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner).
DAY 05: KUSHINAGAR-GORAKHPUR-
After a second visit to the Mahabodhi Temple, depart by surface for Gorakhpur, 55 Kms. Arrive in Gorakhpur and in time board your train for Varanasi. Packed dinner on board the train. Arrive in Varanasi and after assistance at the station transfer to hotel. Dinner and overnight at Hotel. (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner).
DAY 06: VARANASI-SARNATH-VARANASI.
Morning at leisure. After lunch at hotel, proceed with
visit of Sarnath, the buried Buddhist city where Lord
Buddha gave his first sermon. Sarnath was renowned
schools of learning from 6th century B.C. to 12th
century A.D. visit the ruins, the Stupa, the Buddhist
temple and the Museum. Dinner and overnight at Hotel. (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner).
DAY 07: VARANASI-BODHGAYA OR DELHI.
Early morning before sunrise, proceed with tour of the
famous ghats on the bank of holy river Ganges. On
board the boat, to see the bathing ghats and cremation site of Hindus. Watching people religious bathing dips in the river with offering of flowers etc to the holy river and
worshipping at the Ghats is one of the most extraordinary experiences of a visit to India. A true balance of Life and Death. Return
to hotel after the tour. After early lunch at hotel, depart by surface for Bodhgaya (240
Kms). On arrival check-in at hotel. Dinner and overnight at Hotel. (Breakfast, Lunch
DAY 08: BODHGAYA-GAYA-COLOMBO.
After breakfast at hotel, in time transfer to airport at Gaya to board flight for Colombo.
