PARADISE ON EARTH

DELHI- SRINAGAR- DELHI

Introduction

The valley of Kashmir was called paradise by the great Mughal emperors. Srinagar, its capital, is even today the summer capital of the government of Jammu and Kashmir.

It is a city of lakes, waterways, gardens and beautiful landscapes. The city also has a lot of old mosques built of wood in geometric patterns and look more like pagodas. The chinar (maple) and deodar trees lines along roadsides to give the city its typical image. The kashmiri handicrafts offer a wide range of gift items like papier mache boxes, silk scarves, woolen shawls with chain stitch embroidery, fine woodcarving on walnut wood items. . Gulmarg is 53 Kms from Srinagar at an altitude of 8700-ft. also referred as Meadow of Flowers is a famous Ski Resort & the world’s highest 18 hole Golf Course. The place was prominent during the British time.  Enjoy the scenic view of Kongdori on a Cable Car Ride (Gondola).  Your stay in Srinagar is at the shikara (houseboat) which dot the dal lake.  The Delhi sights include the Presidential Palace, the one-time imperial residence of the British viceroys; the India Gate, a memorial raised in honour of the Indian soldiers martyred during the Afghan war and a drive along the Rajpath past the Parliament House and secretarial buildings. Visit Qutab Minar, the 12th century tower of victory built by a slave king and prototype of all minars (towers) in India. Red Fort and the Jama Masjid mosque in Old Delhi.

(You are advised to consult your consulate before travelling to Kashmir).

Jewels of information

Saffron, the most expensive spice in the world is grown in the Kashmir valley. The saffron flower is purple in colour and its anthers make saffrom.
