A Mountain Journey

Arunachal Pradesh is the largest North Eastern state, bordering China and Myanmar. Over 125 tribes live here. It is also the birthplace of the 6th Dalai Lama. Its evergreen forests include 500 species of orchids and are the habitat of exotic species of birds, insects and animals. Though recently opened to foreign tourists, special permits are still required to visit the state and can be easily obtained from the Indian High Commission. Usually less than four people are not allowed to travel together. The accommodation is rather basic and occasionally only campsites are available. A major attraction of the area is to meet the simple and friendly people of the region, who still preserve their traditional crafts and way of life. In addition, the spectacular views of snow-capped mountains, terraced paddy fields and valleys dotted with waterfalls are part of your unusual journey. The evenings can be spent singing and dancing with the villagers - each tribe having its own distinct music and culture.
