KOLKOTA-GUWAHATI-SHILLONG-KAZIRANGA-JORHAT-KOLKOTA

Introduction
Assam spread beneath the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas and sharing boundaries with the North Eastern states of India lies Assam.  Assam probably derives its name from Ahoms, the dynasty that ruled there from 13th to the early 19th century.  In 1228, the Ahoms, a Buddhist Taj tribe from North Thailand, entered Assam, defeated the Kamrupa ruler and established a kingdom, which was called Assam.

Guwahati, known in ancient times as Pragjyotishpura (the Eastern City of lights) is the capital of this state and finds itself frequently mentioned in the Mahabharat and other epics.  Today, Assam covers the plain of the Brahmaputra River along its whole course south of the Hill State of Arunachal Pradesh and the kingdom of Bhutan, till it turns South into Bangladesh. Since the days of Hiuen Tsang Assam has fascinated thousands of travelers with her aura of myth and mystery, history and folklore, art and painting, music and dances, handloom and handicrafts, panorama of nature and a plethora of rarest wild lives roaming through her vast and verdant forests.

Meghalaya literally means the abode of the clouds is the wettest region in the world. Compared to Scotland in its scenery and weather. There are many tribal villages near Shillong including those of the Garo, Khasi and jaintia tribes. These tribes had  their own little kingdoms until the British annexed them.  Due to the climate, the flora is very rich. Famous for its orchids
