Jagannath Dham Yatra

Kolkatta – Bhubaneshwar – Puri – Konark – Kolkatta       (7 Days /6 Nights)

Day 01        Arrive Kolkatta
Met on arrival and transfer to hotel.

Day  02        Kolkatta
Morning proceed for sightseeing tour of Kolkata. Kolkata’s lungs are the vast expanse of lawns called the Maidan, bordered by the Hooghly river at one end and the elegant boulevard at the other.

Around the maidan are many of Calcutta’s historical landmarks -- the magnificent Fort William, St. John’s Church, The Royal Calcutta Turf Club and the Eden Gardens, which has a cricket stadium to seat 100,000 spectators.

At the southern end of the Calcutta Maidan is the imposing Victoria Memorial built in white marble by the British in 1921. it is modeled on the Taj Mahal in Agra.

Built in 1875, the Indian Museum is a fine and huge example of Italian architecture. This is the largest museum in the country having six sections namely Art, Archaeology, Anthropology, Geology, Zoology and Industry.

The Botanical Gardens in Howrah, were laid out in 1786 on the west bank of the river. There is a great variety of carefully classified flora and fauna. A great tourist draw is the 200-year old Banyan tree with a circumference of over 400 metres !

The Belur Math, built to look like a temple, a mosque and a church from different angles. This is the head quarter of the world famous Ramakrishna Mission.

Evening at leisure to explore the local market. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 03        Kolkata – Bhubaneshwar
        (IC 877 – 1240 / 1440 hrs)
Check-out of the hotel and transfer to the airport in time to board flight for Bhuvaneshwar. Met on arrival and transfer to hotel.

Rest of the day at leisure to explore the local market. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 04        Bhubaneshwar
Morning proceed for sightseeing of the temple city of Bhubaneshwar with a visit to the Lingaraj Temple, situated south of the Bindu Sagar Lake. Close to the Lake is another interesting temple, the Vaital Deul Temple.

The gem of Orissa’ temple architecture is the Mukhteshwara Temple, the most ornate of the temples in Bhubaneshwar. The Siddeshwara Temple is an incomplete affair that has the resident deities of Ganesha and Kartikeya, the two sons of Shiva. Nearby is Marichi Kund, a small tank whose waters are said to have power to cure infertility. Notable for detailed sculptures is the Brahmeshwara Temple with a three-meter high lingam which archaeologist’s claim is a Mauryan column.

Day 05        Bhubaneshwar - Konark -  Puri
        (Drive: 90 Km / 2 ½ hrs)
Check-out of the hotel and drive to PUri. En route halt at Konark visiting the world famous, Sun Temple. Also known as Black Pagoda, Standing in solitary splendor amongst the sand dunes, the temple is the most striking example of Kalinga architecture, At this exact spot on our planet the solar eclipse took place in 1980, to the utter amazement of modern astronomers and scientists.

Continue to Puri one of the four most holy Hindu Dhams (abodes). On arrival check-in at the hotel.

Later in the day visit temples. It is a quaint old town with little else to sell than an ancient religious heritage. As one of Hindu India’s four most sacred Hindu pilgrimages, Puri is a rambling seaside town on the eastern coast of Orissa overlooking the Bay of Bengal.

The Jagannath Temple dedicated to Krishna is one of the four dhams or holy places venerated by Hindus and mandatory pilgrimage for the devout.

Day 06        Puri
Day to explore this beach town. Puri is situated on the eastern coast of Orissa. It is a splendid beach resort with golden sunshine, miles of yellow sand, blue waves and white surf.

Evening at leisure to explore the local market. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 07        Puri – Bhubaneshwar – Kolkatta
        (IC 7541 – 1340 / 1435 hrs)
Morning at leisure, later check-out of the hotel and transfer to the Bhubaneshwar airport in time to board your flight for Kolkata. Assistance on arrival and transfer to the International airport in time to board your flight for onward destination.
